Cat Bountry vs. Earth: Hold On, Wait a Minute, Back Up.
FIRST AND FOREMOST, THIS ABOVE!
That is what I fuckin’ say to TF2Chan or whatever the fuck it is. Bunch of uptight, twat spitting bastards. I read the rules. HONESTLY READ THEM, and I have to say that there is less room for fun in that place than for a kid…
Not to barge headlong into the maw of insanity, but…
I have posted on TF2chan for over a year, and while I can neither confirm or deny that the site was an “elitist leper colony” OR “the creme de la creme” in its heyday, I can say with certainty that it is hardly a snotty showcase of “only the best stuff in the fandom” nowadays. A lot of what gets posted on TF2chan is crap. Hell, I post there! The people who frequented the site with the intention of relentlessly enforcing their ideas of what qualified as ‘good fanart’ and ‘good fanfic’ have long tired of the place and left for sites like Tumblr where they can adjust what flows across their dash to suit their tastes, and I say, “good for them”. It’s better than to have people engaging in Olympic-style bullying on the chan for shits and giggles, and at least here on Tumblr you can simply block anyone who repeatedly posts rude crap about what you’re doing if you really don’t want to see it.
It’s up to the individual to decide whether a site’s rules are too confusing and archaic for them to enjoy the site, and while I personally like TF2chan for the most part, (warts and all) it isn’t the hub of the TF2 fandom any more than Deviantart or Tumblr or FF.net or the Steampowered forums are. Art and fics that I don’t want to see get posted there regularly, but rather than raising an epic stink over them, I just don’t read them and look at what doesn’t offend me instead. This is the same on every public site. Really, the only way to have a site with rules you like where only content you want is shown is for you to start your own website.
When I look at oldies from TF2Chan talking about it, I get the distinct feeling of a middle-aged person who peeked in high school, desperately trying to grasp and hold onto their old glory days. That, or old people sitting on their lawns, shaking their canes at these “kids today.”
TF2chan is going to die soon, even faster if you advertise it by having huge public debates over weather or not someone should be banned for saying “don’t like it? Don’t read it.”
I think if you take a minute, you can see where one could get the “the chan is full of asshole elitist snobs” idea…
Also, no smiles? The only thing I thought was dumber than that was when it would Auto-correct Tumblr to Hipster, and someone had the good scene to cut that horse shit out.
