Looking on the comments of the Critic's review of Ponyo...
I really enjoy when people express their discomfort with a joke in a calm and thought out way, and then other people come in and swear and get pissy at them. People are allowed to be offended by things, not everyone is as edgy as you.
Though, I feel like “I’m not going to make a joke about the Tsunami” gag was one of the reasons the Critic decided to do this movie. He could have done ANOTHER Miyazaki directed film, but he decided to do one that lined up with a recent enough tragedy. I wish he had done another Miyazaki film, if only so it would have actually been nostalgic.
Anyway, people are allowed to be made uncomfortable by it, especially those living or have family living in Japan. You don’t need to chew them out in an attempt to look tough and defend your favorite internet reviewer.
The review was okay, just kind’ve made me wish I was watching Ponyo.
